Job Description
- The Lead Pressman is responsible in ensuring that paper and ink meet specifications and adjust the flow of ink to the inking rollers accordingly
- Adjusts to manage ink distribution, speed and temperature.
- Once paper tears or jams and the press stops, operator is responsible to quickly correct the problem to minimize downtime
- Operating a press is physically and mentally demanding and sometimes tedious, works under pressure to meet deadlines
- Checks and monitors running condition of machine prior to operation
- Looks constantly for any problems that might occur while running and make quick correction if any to avoid expensive losses of paper and ink
- Throughout the run, regularly pull sheets to check for any printing imperfections
- Sets up, monitors and adjust printing process on a control panel or computer which allows them to control the press electronically
- Performs preventive maintenance by oiling and cleaning and making minor repairs,
- Co-ordinates with maintenance team to any unusual behaviour of the machine to avoid huge damage or faults
- Reports and discuss any unusual machine behaviour to supplier’s maintenance team in coordination with in-house maintenance
- Co-ordinates specific requirement of some customers by showing them the actual print-out in reaching their satisfaction
- Records machine error history and how it was corrected as reference for analysis to easily identify future errors
- Monitor and analyse machine behaviour from time to time
- Coaches and mentors subordinates when required
- Train press operators and share techniques and best practices
- Set time aside to do online research on specific machine being used to acquire additional information other than available in manual.
- Initiate interest to cross train with other operators handling different press machine to enhance skills
Skills
- 8-10 years working experience as Manroland Offset Press Operator
- 2-3 years experience as a Senior Manroland Offset Operator
- Familiar with installing different machine parts of the press such as plates, rollers and feed guides and adjusting them to meet the required result
- Technical knowledge on the printing machines
- Possess good mathematical skills necessary to compute percentages, weights and measures and to calculate the amount of ink and paper needed to process jobs
- Ability to communicate in English (Oral and Written)
- Ability to work well with others
- College Level or any formal apprenticeship programs in Printing Technology
- Male, 35 - 45 years old
- Must have knowledge in mechanical aptitude to make press adjustment and repairs
- Basic Computer literacy to operate electronically controlled equipment
- Must have a good vision and attention to detail to locate and fix problems with print job
